2017 Medical Mission Trips

APRIL 2017 Trip

Our scripture verse for the week was 1 Corinthians 12:12 the body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. We were united as one for this trip in our love to do God’s will.

The April team was unique because we incorporated a warehouse team with our medical team. It was a God given miracle; the amount of work this team accomplished in the warehouse. He always sends the right people to the right place when we listen to His voice. This team worked 12-15 hours per day in the Haitian heat with no air conditioning only fans, to get the warehouse organized so that it could operate more efficiently at the clinic. The medical team jumped onboard with the warehouse team and helped them sort and organize our supplies in their downtime. We are now able to walk into the warehouse look at a chart, and find medication, surgical equipment, wheelchairs, crutches, walkers etc. The warehouse team was only scheduled to be with us for the first 3 days of the trip, they were such an intricate part of our whole team that many tears were shed when we said our good-byes on Tuesday.

Thoughts from our warehouse team leader Casey:

“The warehouse team was a diverse crew, each with entirely different talents...but Our Father brought it all together to accomplish something miraculous through their team that will help to further advance the use of the resources at the clinic, for many teams that will come!"

Ephesians 4:15-16 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

The medical team worked diligently with the Haitian staff to make sure every patient was seen and cared for during our 6 clinic days. Our total number of patients seen in the clinic; for treatment follow up appointments, or surgery was 839 patients, 22 of them being surgeries.  Highlights and blessings for the April medical team at the MIVO clinic was the first total hip replacement and the first total knee replacement for two individual young Haitian men ( 30’s) who had such difficulty walking related to their joint pain from disease. We were blessed to be able to help them regain the mobility, which is important in Haiti, so that they are able to work again and provide for their family. Both patients are doing very well. There were hundreds of knee/shoulder injections given to provide pain relief and many prayers for spiritually healing.

The acuity and complexity of the patients coming to the MIVO Orthopedique Centre in Haiti continues to rise and every team member was challenged in different ways throughout the week. The volunteers on this April mission trip have been changed forever spiritually. Working at a clinic that supports high quality orthopedic and spiritual care to the people of Haiti will forever have an imprint on their heart. God called each and every one of us to that team for His purpose. We thank God for his protection over this team and give Him all the glory for our work in Haiti.

Luke 9:2  and He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
